A takeaway was eaten on Friday, 13th Sep 2002 in the evening.
The food ordered was: Lamb Jalfreize, Pilau Rice, Chapati.
Quality of food
The food was better than average in terms of taste and quality and although the Jalfreizi meat was a *little* tough the texture wasn't at all displeasing when combined with the sauce.
The chicken Dhansak was similarly plesantly spiced although nothing to write home about - tender in texture unlike the meat.
The nan was slightly overcooked - a more than superficial blackness in parts but fairly tasty. The pilau rice was basic and lacking in colour with little scent and taste.
Quality of service
Very poor: I asked for nan bread instead of pilau rice (which comes with the house menu Dhansak). I was told I couldn't have nan instead of rice - first time I've ever encountered this in 20 years of visiting curry houses/take-aways! So instead of ordering rice with the Jalfreizi I ordered a nan instead. The whole experience was very unfriendly - the waiters speaking loudly in bengali whilst looking at me!
The order arrived and I was so eager to get out of the place that I didn't check the order which, it turned out, had been completely cooked up including 2 portions of rice which I hadn't asked for but had been charged for. I was also not given the "free" dish of choice for take-away orders.
Very, very poor and quite a nasty experience!
Variety on menu
All the usual suspects.
Decor & ambience
Nothing that deserves special comment - it is what it is (a curry house) and claims to be nothing else.
Location
As central as you can get.
Cost
It's quite pricey for what you get - a very standard meal.
The service was the worst I've ever encountered in 20 years and under no circumstances would *I* go back. But that's just my opinion - had the service been better I would have perhaps been disposed to be kinder to the place. Having said that paying over £20 for a basic although admittedly slightly above average takeaway meal for 2 isn't good.
Woking simply lacks value for money curry houses.
In summary
A horrible experience with "service" has coloured my judgement of this curry house - over priced, cocked up order and scary looks from the waiters!
Having said that the food is of consistent quality (other people have confirmed this) and the food is *just* above average.
You could do far better things with your curry money on a Saturday night.
